Description

After a pandemic rolled through the island of Sløborn, the survivors have to deal with the consequences.
When a bird-flu type disease originating in pigeons is discovered in northern China, the people living on an idyllic island in the North Sea think nothing of it. But one day a sailing boat carrying the mummified bodies of a British couple washes up on the island. It subsequently emerges that they have brought the virus with them. The islanders are advised to wear face masks and practice social distancing. Quarantine rules are introduced, and conspiracy theories abound. The show, whose title is a play on “slow burn”, tells the story of how life on a fictitious island of the same name descends into chaos and destruction as the virus takes hold. It sounds like a plot inspired by Covid-19, but in fact, Sløborn was filmed the year before the Covid outbreak.
A coming-of-age-drama and post-apocalyptic disaster thriller merge into a modern epic. In a radical, uncompromising manner, the series raises the question of what happens to us modern people when the thin varnish of our civilization collapses.
“Well designed, written, and directed. Even better acted. And trendy, no doubt.” – Duart
“The series makers have researched carefully and the story remains interesting and believable in a time that feels like a mirror of the series. Characters are written and played with a loving eye for detail. Slow and careful, but not long-winded storytelling takes care of the rest on the way to making this a recommendable series.” – Serienjunkies.de
“The story was written before Corona, but what the makers created here is both impressive and frightening. They have indeed foreseen many things.” – Movie Shark
