When rich video-store magnate Johnny Rose and his family suddenly find themselves broke, they are forced to leave their pampered lives to regroup in Schitt’s Creek.
The wealthy Rose family — video store magnate Johnny, his wife and former soap opera actress Moira, and their pampered adult children David and Alexis — lose their fortune after being defrauded by their business manager. They rebuild their lives with sole remaining asset: a small, remote town in Ontario named Schitt’s Creek, which Johnny bought for David as a joke birthday gift. The Roses are forced to relocate to Schitt’s Creek, moving into two adjacent rooms in a run-down motel. While the family adjusts to their new lives, their well-to-do attitudes come into conflict with the more provincial residents of Schitt’s Creek, including mayor Roland Schitt, his wife Jocelyn and their son Mutt, the motel’s manager Stevie, town council members Ronnie Lee and Bob Currie, the veterinarian Ted and Jazzagal member and Café Tropical waitress Twyla.
