Description

Scandal, seduction, blackmail and murder. Thank heavens their husbands aren’t alive!
Mrs. Edwina Broome has just moved into the neighborhood known as “Widows’ Peak”, so called due to the prevalent marital status of the residents, who tend to be a rather exclusive bunch. The residents are all curious about their new neighbor, but no one can seem to get much information about her, including Queen Bee Mrs. Doyle-Counihan. Miss Katherine O’Hare and Edwina have an immediate dislike for each other, however, and soon some accidental encounters begin to look like Edwina is trying to ruin her new rival. The problems escalate and the town is in an uproar, but they get no closer to solving the mystery of the newcomer.
“Irish playwright Hugh Leonard wrote the lively script, peppered with ripe turns of phrase and dashes of Irish-English antagonism. Plowright and Farrow are loads of fun, but Richardson steals the show. She seems to have been directed to impersonate Sharon Stone, and her wickedness is enjoyably transparent.” – The Washington Post
“Mia Farrow displays a fresh-faced loveliness that belies her spinster role. There’s a tough core of intelligence and wit in her Miss O’Hare. This film proves that her talent, tied to Woody Allen for the last decade, can still flourish outside.” – Rolling Stone
“The pleasure here is watching three terrific actresses doing star turns as only they can. Farrow, lovely as ever, starts out by persuasively making Miss O’Hare seem as mad as a hatter. Plowright is her usual droll self and Richardson is a perfectly radiant Edwina.” – Movie Magazine International
