In search of a new job, young Elisabeth arrives in the small, idyllic community of St Annes. There she makes the chance acquaintance of Gregory Heston, a young guardsman in the service of the British Queen.

Gregory knows that his father Mortimer Heston is looking for a new domestic servant for the large estate. Elisabeth gets the job, which makes Gregory particularly happy, as he quickly falls in love with the enchanting young woman. Gregory has some bad news to tell his father. He has failed his officer’s examination, which Mortimer resents very much. After passing his exams, Gregory should finally marry his long-time fiancée Rebecca. Elisabeth not only feels particularly comfortable around Gregory, but she also has a strange experience at St. Anne’s. She feels as if she has been to all these places in her childhood. But her mother, with whom she speaks on the phone, rejects her questions outright. Elisabeth finds several clues that suggest her suspicions are well-founded. She knows Heston House and the area around St Anne’s, and she no longer has any doubts that there is a secret in her family that she does not yet know. Gregory, torn between the pressure exerted on him by his fiancée and his father and his growing love for Elisabeth, is an important support in her search for her secret …
