Description
A psychological gothic tale of Victorian revenge.
Still affected by the death of her mother, Blue lives the life of a reluctant call girl in Brighton. Although fond of her boss, she’s terrified of her boyfriend. When she calls on a client in an old Victorian house, Blue finds a shy man called Bill who shows her a mutoscope he’s discovered. After watching the disturbing events featuring a strange hooded man, Blue discovers a hidden room which unlocks a number of dark secrets surrounding the mysterious house and her family.
“A great first (directorial) attempt. The plot’s handled well by Shackleton. ‘The Sleeping Room’ features some impressive performances from both the younger and more established actors. An impressive entry into the modern British horror canon.” – Back Seat Mafia
“Effectively creepy and satisfyingly lensed, and the shocks are permeated with a melancholy calm, mirrored in the constant lapping of the sea, which gives the whole film an unsettling sense of stillness, even as it rushes by.” – Exquisite Terror
“It’s got fresh ideas and a suitably creepy plot that crawls under your skin. The set design of the house in the film is fantastic and is enough to give you nightmares. With great performances from all involved, ‘The Sleeping Room’ is one eerie British horror worth checking out.” – Horror Cult Films
