Description

Young Amy Fox travels to Cornwall to visit the famous author Margaret Griffin. Amy has been her biggest fan for years, and recently the two have even become friends. Now she will be celebrating Margaret’s birthday with her closest friends.

Along the way, she meets the handsome Daniel Griffin, Margaret’s son. As a farmer, he manages the family’s estate. Amy is immediately taken with his natural and direct manner. Daniel also seems attracted to her. When she arrives at Griffin House, however, Amy soon realizes that something is wrong in the family. After her husband James left her and went to South America, Margaret is plagued by financial worries. Her books used to be huge successes. But since Margaret’s sister Dorothee has been working as her agent, strangely enough, she hasn’t been able to find a publisher for her new novel. And without the manuscript being sold, the estate can no longer be maintained. Amy is perplexed, less by the financial worries than by the fact that the family isn’t holding together. While Margaret’s books speak so wonderfully about feelings, everyone in her family is avoiding each other. For Amy, who grew up without a mother herself, Margaret’s novels have always been a great help in life. She decides to help the Griffins and give back some of the happiness she experienced in Margaret’s books. Daniel and Amy grow ever closer, but Daniel can’t escape the shadow of his mother, who would prefer not to see anything change. Amy feels that her ever-growing love for Daniel is threatened by so much opposition, especially since a mysterious man who often secretly stays near the country estate is causing further irritation.

Pilcher’s books have sold more than 12m copies in Germany, been turned into more than 160 TV dramas and helped to bring 112,000 Germans to England’s rugged southwestern tip every year, making it Cornwall’s biggest overseas market for tourists.
