Set in the glamorous world of the international jet set and European aristocracy, “Antonia” unfolds the poignant tale of a young, single, middle-class law student, Antonia, who becomes a countess, a widow and the head of a vast financial empire, all within a few weeks.
After falling in love with and marrying Count Leonhardt von Ahrensdorff, Antonia inherits his fortune and his post as head of the Ahrensdorff Bank when Leonhardt is shot and killed just minutes after their wedding. Despite the open hostility of her in-laws, the inexperienced young woman begins to implement the projects begun by her husband and opposed by his family.
With her fresh and open manner, as well as her beauty and charm, Antonia wins over many doubters and enemies; only her brother-in-law Moritz seems immune to her appeal – but perhaps only because he himself is in love with her.
Before he can avow his love, however, a terrible suspicion arises: Moritz is suspected of having hired his brother’s killer.
