Description
In the 1970s, Patricia Hearst is abducted by American revolutionaries, but eventually joins their cause instead.
Based on a renowned true story, this drama follows college student and newspaper heiress Patty Hearst as she is abducted at the hands of left-wing extremists. Held captive by members of the Symbionese Liberation Army, Hearst is exposed to their beliefs and eventually cooperates with the group, even taking part in a number of bank robberies. Later, Hearst is apprehended, and authorities must determine how to deal with her highly unusual case. This created a scandal in the US and since then Patty Hearst has become a pop culture fixture.
“The success of ‘Patty Hearst’ is that it avoids imposing any kind of reassuring order on the harrowing, real-life story of the Hearst publishing company heiress. Instead, the movie makes scary demands on the audience.” – The New York Times
“The entire film centers on the remarkable performance by Natasha Richardson as Hearst. She convinces us she is Hearst, not by pressing the point, but by taking it for granted.” – rogerebert.com
“This stylized movie of ideas is a lean, impressive piece of work.” – The New Yorker
