Laura Seal, an independent gardener, has been dedicated to her small community since her youth, a place where her roots run deep.
As the youngest member of the town council, she has only just set up a community garden where citizens collectively grow fruit and vegetables when her father, Francis Seal —the town’s well-respected mayor—suffers an unexpected heart attack. Thrust into the deep end, the politically inexperienced Laura suddenly becomes the town’s mayor. Meanwhile, Robert Spencer, an ambitious London journalist, has just fallen flat on his face with a major scoop. Instead of taking down a government minister, he is now facing the chopping block. His publisher, Dame Hennessy—a powerful aristocrat—wants to take him out of the firing line and offers him the position of editor-in-chief at a local newspaper, the Village Chronicle. Bob, who considers himself far too good for the provinces, has no choice but to head down to Cornwall. When Laura and Bob cross paths, the sparks fly instantly.
